Legal regulation of Bitcoins and other cryptocurrencies in Spain
When we think about “appropriate” regulation for cryptocurrencies (or virtual currencies), some questions arise: do we consider them as currencies, financial products or merchandise? What type of information disclosed to the public should be required from the companies that issue them? How should they be taxed? Should we design a single legal treatment for all cryptocurrencies or create a special regulation for each type of virtual currency? In this post I talk about the status of cryptocurrency regulation in Spain.
